I have more than 10 years experience in communication design. I hold a BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City with an emphasis in Communication Design, and have also studied graphic design at the London College of Communication. My work has been published in Graphic Design USA (GDUSA), Graphic Design by David E. Carter, American Corporate Identity and the HOW Magazine blog. Born and raised in Hong Kong, I came to Islam in New York in 2001 and infuse my work with faith and intercultural understanding. In partnership with my husband Jontie Karden, I have also cofounded Sakina Design, a producer and retailer of contemporary Islamic home art.
FIND ME HERE:
I am the co-founder and business head of the studio of KUNG PIK LIU (KPL) and Sakina Design, two businesses I share with Pik. I started my career in the medical field, with a BS in Biology from Cornell University and an MD from Upstate Medical University. I soon discovered my passions laid elsewhere. These days I enjoy my role as a bridge between Islam and the West. I am particularly passionate about promoting and building the Islamic economy, and am always looking for clients and partners to work with in this space.

“I can summarize my experience with Pik in two words, “expectations exceeded”. I first learned about her from a mutual colleague, who worked with her in the past. I trusted his recommendation and have had no regrets. In addition to multiple smaller publications and marketing materials, she designed three of our primary 2013 reports. With a great eye for design, and a talent for suggesting and implementing innovative design solutions, her work has brought our products to the next level. In addition, I have found her to be reliable and responsive. We work in a very fast-paced environment, yet she is able to keep-up and maintain quality work, delivering our projects on-time and on-budget. If I could change anything it would be adding another Pik to our team.”

“Pik was involved in the re-branding and re-design of Halal Consumer magazine. She has contributed to raising the magazine’s profile as a brand and helped us increase subscriptions by 7000 in a matter of two issues of the magazine. Open to suggestion, she transforms ideas into results that regularly beat our expectations. She is a pleasure to work with.”

I cannot express how amazing it is to have every rendition of logo and file we could possibly need! I have worked with many, many organizations that fail to have such an exhaustive library of options in their arsenal. Thank you for bringing us to this level.

I recently worked with Pik to design our online course prospectus in a very short time period. Not only did Pik deliver on time, but the prospectus was beautifully designed with great attention to detail. What I liked most working with Pik was her professionalism, and expertise ensuring the best results for me as a client. Highly recommend to work with her if you want a professional, punctual, high quality graphic designer.

We have used Pik’s work at CAIR for our annual report. The result was amazing. Our members have called that year’s report our best ever. Pik and other staff worked with us from concept to final product, accommodating our tight nonprofit budget and short time, and yet delivered on time. This professional and skilled team will sure make your graphic design or printing project a five-star one.
